With a rallying cry of Be Bold for Change, the organizers behind the 2017 International Women’s Day are gearing up for their biggest event ever. The initiative is over 100 years old but has grown to include activities and events across 20 nations and 33 U.S, cities. Understanding that there is no single government, organization, charity, or academic institution that can effectively tackle all of the challenges women face globally, the day is a worldwide effort to collaborate, spread awareness, and affect lasting change.

International Women’s Day means different things to different people across the world, but the main global focus is on equality and celebration. Throughout ancient and modern history, women have taken bold action to confront inequality and injustice, to make life better for themselves, their children, and their communities.  In the early 1900’s, one especially powerful initiative was established by the famous suffragettes, urging women to come together in unity of purpose. That initiative turned into what is now International Women’s Day.

*   To this day, the celebration continues to be a powerful global
platform that celebrates the social, cultural, economic and
political achievements of women.
*  There are 10 specific values that guide all of the International
Women’s Day’s activities. These include Justice, Dignity, Hope,
Collaboration, Tenacity, Appreciation, Respect, Empathy, and
Forgiveness
*  Popular events from previous years include technical seminars,
concerts, independent films, galas and dinners, career fairs,
and even fun runs. There are global gatherings and online
forums attended by millions of people.
