Summer Has Arrived! Here’s The Flowers We Recommend This Season!

The first day of summer, June 21st, is one of the most anticipated days of the year. The kids are out of school for summer vacation, brides are getting ready to walk down the aisle, and family vacations are in full swing.

It is also a great time to brighten up your home with flowers, especially, if you just went through a long cold and dreary winter. The most popular summer flower is the rose. Another popular summer flower is lilies and roses and white lilies go great together.

History of the Rose

The rose is believed to be over 35 million years old. There are over 30,000 species of roses. There are several legends that come with the history of the rose. Going back to Greek mythology, The Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, was said to have created the rose out of her love for Adonis. When he died his blood and her tears merged and the rose was created.

During the Victorian Era, roses were used as a way to communicate. This tradition is still around as each of the primary rose colors have significant meanings. While not everyone realizes this or even cares, the meaning of roses was once very significant.

Rose Meanings

If you’re planning a baby shower or bridal shower in your home, or choosing the flowers for your bridal bouquet you may want to know what the colors mean.

  • Red Roses – I Love You
  • Pink Roses – Thank You
  • White Roses – I Miss You
  • Yellow Roses – Congratulations
  • Lilac Roses – Love at the Sight

Brighten Up Your Home With Roses

When you select roses to brighten up your home the meanings are not important. Many people make beautiful rainbow colored centerpieces for their home. Each color rose seems to enhance the next color in the arrangement.

Another great idea when making a centerpiece is to outline the vase with white roses or white lilies and fill the center in with any color rose you like. Of course, you can also choose two colors that go well together such as white and with any color, red and yellow, and pink and lilac. You can also add clear or colored gemstones to the bottom of the vase.

If you’re having a dinner party, a nice decorating idea is to purchase small vases and fill the bottom with colored gravel (the type you would use for a fish tank) and then place a rose that is either darker or lighter than the gravel. These can be used in place of name setting cards and your guests can take them home. You can also make these and place them throughout your home using each rooms color scheme.

The summer season is way too short! Get those fresh summer flowers while you still can and create a beautiful oasis to come home to everyday!
