3 of Our Favorite Flower Types for Labor Day

sunflower bowlAs the summer winds down, thoughts turn to football’s pre-season, back to school shopping and Labor Day barbecues. The weather’s still warm, but there’s that faint hint of autumn in the air already. Whether you’re invited to a family picnic, an end-of-summer barbecue, or you just want to surprise someone you love, here are three of the top late summer and Labor Day flower choices:

Sunflowers

Sunflowers have that magical ability of being able to show the brightness of summer but also having an autumnal quality about them; this makes them an ideal choice for a Labor Day bouquet. The bold yellows, golds, oranges and rust tones of sunflowers can brighten up any occasion and bring cheer to a summer gathering. They also make great centerpieces. Consider bringing a Sunflower Bowl or Sunflower Vase to your next picnic.

Asters

Asters resemble daisies, but they are available in a wider range of bright colors. They can come in white, but it’s not surprising to find them in stunning shades of pink, purple, red, yellow, orange and even blue. Griffien’s Hoo-radiant arrangement features orange roses and hot pink carnations along with brightly colored asters in a sunny yellow vase. The Natural Wonders Basket combines asters with iris, carnations, lilies, and more.

Lilies

If an elegant touch is called for in your Labor Day arrangement, the lily can deliver. Calla and Asiatic lilies are known for subtle springtime colors, but lilies can also be bold shades of pink, yellow and purple.

Combining autumn flowers is another way to send some late summer cheer during the Labor Day season. A Perfectly Pastel arrangement is both gorgeous and graceful, featuring pink Asiatic lilies, yellow spray roses, lavender cushion spray chrysanthemums, yellow carnations, pink roses accented and light greenery. Its stunning array of blooms come in a lavender vase with pink ribbon. The Autumn Fun Bowl combines lilies and a sunflower in an elegant glass container for an innovative and memorable gift.

Patriotic Colors

If you’re invited to a Labor Day picnic, barbecue or other themed event, consider bringing a patriotic flower arrangement in red, white and blue. Our Nation’s Pride Bouquet is adorned with American flags, and the Rare Beauty arrangement features iris, white daisies and mini carnations. You’ll show your American pride and delight your host.

No matter what the occasion, there’s an ideal flower to help you celebrate. This Labor Day season, surprise them with a late-summer gift that features sunflowers, asters, lilies — or a combination of all of them.
