In the modern office, administrative professionals are the “brains” that keep the office running well. This year, celebrate the administrative professionals that keep your office running during Secretaries Week, which is April 19-25, or more specifically on Wednesday, April 22, which is Secretaries Day. Griffin’s Floral Design has a number of arrangements and gift items that make a great choice, and a beautiful desk display, as you honor the administrative professionals in your life.
A History of Secretaries’ Day
Secretaries Day was the brainchild of Mary Barrett, who was once the president of the National Secretaries Association, which is now the International Association of Administrative Professionals, and C. King Woodbridge, president of Dictaphone Corporation. When the nation faced a shortage of skilled office workers, the two had the idea to have a National Secretaries Week, and it was first celebrated in June of 1952.
In 1955, the week was moved to the last full week of April, and in 2000 the name was changed to Administrative Professionals Week as the job of “secretary” became more all-encompassing. The goal of the week is to honor those who perform this essential job and to draw attention to the impressive career options for the professionals. Today it is one of the largest workplace observances in the country, and is celebrated throughout the world.
Gift Options for Secretaries Day
When giving a gift for Secretaries Day, be sure to consider how the gift will look displayed on the desk. Gifts, such as living plants, that can continue to decorate the desk long after the week is over are a great choice. Griffin’s offers the Dragonfly Planter which is a great choice for this option. The small cube is filled with live plants, rocks and decorative dragonflies.
Cut flowers can also make impressive displays, and add a touch of color to the office space. The elegant Blooming Orchid Bud Vase makes an impressive display, but the slender vase ensures that it does not take up too much space on the desk.
For administrative professionals who prefer a non-floral gift, A Bucket of Thanks is a great choice. Filled with tasty treats in a colorful bucket, this gift says “thank you” in a very tasty way.
No matter which of these or other Griffin’s Floral Design gifts you choose, make sure you take the time to say “thank you” to your administrative professionals this April. They work hard for you, and deserve a little recognition.
